Club History

The Victoria Club has a long standing presence in the community. In 1923 our founding members saw the need for a community organization to help new residents of the city. Initially, they rented a building on 11th and Ottawa Street and opened their doors with a membership base of 23 members. The main objective was to create a benevolent society to help those in need. As more and more people moved to Canada for a new start, the membership grew. As time went on, the Club began to provide more recreational activities for the members, but its main objective was as a benevolent society.

In 1924, due to popular demand, the benevolent society was incorporated as a Private Club. Shares were sold for $10.00 each, with a maximum of 2000 shares to be distributed. The property at Victoria and Toronto (our current location of 1300 Victoria Avenue) was purchased from the city, and in May of 1925, building began and was completed in October of the same year. Two bowling lanes were added in 1930 and the Victoria Club earned the reputation as a "premium bowling house" in the city. Men's 10 Pin started the ball rolling, then Mixed Five Pin began and finally we established a Mixed 10 Pin League.

Eventually, the war came and many members went off to serve our country, many came back, but a few didn't. These men are memorialized on a marble plaque that is still in place in the front entrance of the Club.

We are proud to say we are the Oldest private club in Regina, 99 years strong!
